Test and tag for construction sites
Test and Tag for Construction Sites in Sydney
On a construction or demolition site, portable electrical equipment must be tested and tagged every 3 months under AS/NZS 3012 — far more often than in any other workplace — and each test carries a quarterly colour tag so a site supervisor or principal contractor can confirm at a glance that gear is current. Rapid Test & Tag services Sydney sites with fast turnaround, correctly colour-coded tags and same-day digital records, so your crew isn't stood down and your equipment stays on the tools.
Why construction is different
Building sites are the harshest environment electrical equipment faces: leads get dragged across rubble, crushed under traffic, left in the weather and run off portable generators and RCDs. That's why the standard for construction and demolition, AS/NZS 3012, requires 3-monthly testing rather than the 6-month-to-5-year intervals used elsewhere — and why the quarterly colour-tag system exists (red, green, blue, yellow, one per quarter) so overdue gear is spotted instantly.
What we test on a construction site
- ✓Power tools and battery chargers — drills, grinders, saws, lighting.
- ✓Extension leads and power boards — the most-damaged items on any site (earth continuity, insulation resistance and polarity checks).
- ✓Portable RCDs (safety switches) — push-button and measured trip-time tested; on site these are a frontline protection and are checked frequently. (See test and tag vs RCD testing.)
- ✓Site-shed appliances — kettles, microwaves, fridges, heaters in the lunch room and site office.
- ✓Temporary lighting and transformers used in the works.
Why it matters on site — and who requires it
Under NSW work health and safety law (the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2025), a builder or principal contractor must manage electrical risk, and testing to AS/NZS 3012 is the recognised way to do it. In practice it's non-negotiable: principal contractors, head builders and site inductions require current, correctly-coloured tags before anyone's equipment is allowed on site, and a failed audit can stop work. Keeping tags current is what keeps your people — and your gear — on the job.
How we work around your site
We schedule to suit the site program, test efficiently with minimal disruption to trades, apply the correct quarter's colour tag on the spot, and provide same-day digital records and an asset register your site manager or principal contractor can produce at any audit. Work is carried out under licence TTT69067, fully insured.
What it costs
Our minimum is $120 + GST, which covers your first 30 items, with no call-out fee. Larger sites and ongoing 3-monthly programs are quoted per item — see our pricing page, or send your site location and rough item count for a fast quote.
