Test and tag for hospitality

Test and Tag for Cafes, Restaurants & Commercial Kitchens in Sydney

A commercial kitchen is one of the toughest environments on portable electrical equipment — heat, steam, water, grease and constant use break down leads and appliances faster than an office ever would. That's why hospitality equipment is typically tested and tagged every 6 months under AS/NZS 3760:2022, rather than annually. Rapid Test & Tag services Sydney cafes, restaurants, bars and commercial kitchens after hours or before service, so compliance doesn't cost you a shift.

Why hospitality needs more frequent testing

Offices get a light touch; kitchens don't. Appliances and leads in a busy venue face moisture, heat, cleaning chemicals and heavy daily use, and damage accumulates quickly. Under AS/NZS 3760:2022, that harsher environment means a shorter retest interval — generally 6 months — to catch a frayed lead or a failing appliance before it causes a shock, a fire or a failed inspection.

What we test in a venue

  • ✓Commercial kitchen appliances — blenders, mixers, urns, toasters, bain-maries, warming equipment, prep machines.
  • ✓Refrigeration and cool-room plug-in equipment and leads.
  • ✓Bar and service equipment — coffee machines, glass washers, blenders, POS and terminal power leads.
  • ✓Extension leads and power boards — heavily used and heavily abused (earth continuity, insulation resistance and polarity checks).
  • ✓Back-of-house — office, storeroom and cleaning equipment.

Why it matters — and who asks for it

Under NSW work health and safety law a venue operator (a PCBU) must manage electrical risk, and testing to AS/NZS 3760:2022 is the recognised way to do it. Beyond the duty, commercial leases and insurers commonly require current test-and-tag records, and they're a routine ask in a compliance inspection or audit. For a venue, current tags are simply part of being able to trade with confidence.

Done around your service, not through it

We know you can't lose a Friday night to compliance. We test before opening, after close, or in a quiet window, work efficiently around the kitchen and bar, and provide same-day digital records and an asset register you can produce for your landlord, insurer or an inspector. Work is carried out under licence TTT69067, fully insured.

What it costs

Our minimum is $120 + GST, which covers your first 30 items, with no call-out fee — which covers many single venues outright. Groups and multi-site operators are quoted per item; see our pricing page, or send your venue location and rough item count for a fast quote.

Test and Tag for Hospitality — Frequently Asked Questions

Last updated: November 2026

How often should a commercial kitchen test and tag?

Generally every 6 months under AS/NZS 3760:2022, because the wet, hot, greasy, high-use environment wears equipment faster than a low-risk setting like an office.

Can you test after hours so we don't lose service?

Yes — we test before opening, after close or in a quiet window, and work efficiently around the kitchen and bar so there's no disruption to trade.

What equipment do you test in a venue?

All plug-in electrical equipment — kitchen appliances, refrigeration leads, bar and coffee equipment, POS power leads, extension leads and power boards, and back-of-house gear.

Why do kitchens need testing more often than offices?

Because moisture, heat, cleaning chemicals and heavy daily use damage leads and appliances far faster, so the standard sets a shorter retest interval for these environments.

Do landlords or insurers require it?

Commonly, yes — many commercial leases and insurers require current test-and-tag records, and they're a routine part of compliance inspections.
