How to Choose a Test and Tag Provider in Sydney

Not all test and tag providers are equal. Here's what actually separates a good one from a bad one — the questions worth asking before you book, and what the answers should look like.

Test and tag looks like a simple service from the outside, which makes it easy to choose on price alone. The problem is that a cheap, poorly-done job can leave you with equipment that's tagged as compliant but wasn't properly tested — which defeats the purpose. Here's what's actually worth checking.

1. A real, checkable licence

Ask for a licence number and don't be afraid to check it. We're licensed under TTT69067 — a real, verifiable trade licence, not just a business name.

2. Proper insurance

Ask what level of public liability cover a provider carries, and get it in writing if you're relying on it. We carry $20M public liability insurance.

3. Correct standards knowledge

A competent provider should know which standard applies to your equipment — AS/NZS 3760 for electrical items, AS 1851 for fire extinguishers, AS/NZS 2293 for emergency lighting — and test at the interval appropriate to your environment, not a one-size-fits-all schedule.

4. Genuine, audit-ready certificates

You should receive a real compliance certificate for your records, not just a tag on the equipment. We issue same-day digital certificates and reports.

5. Transparent pricing, no hidden call-out fees

A clear, upfront figure is worth more than a vague quote. Our own pricing is a $120 + GST minimum covering your first 30 items, all-inclusive, with no call-out fee — see our pricing page for the full breakdown.

6. A genuine price-beat guarantee

If a provider offers to beat a competitor's quote, check the terms — it should apply to any valid written quote, not just a narrow set of conditions. We'll beat any competitor's valid written quote by 5%.

Questions worth asking before you book

  • What's your licence number?
  • What's your public liability cover?
  • Which standard applies to my equipment, and how often does it need testing?
  • Do I get a digital certificate on the day?
  • Is there a call-out fee?

These are the same things we'd want to know before hiring anyone for compliance work — which is a large part of why we built our own service around them. Get in touch if you'd like a quote.
