Test & Tag Requirements (NSW)
Simple, Plain-English Guide

If you’re unsure what you need to test, how often, or which standard applies, this page gives you a clear overview. We also send automatic reminders so you never miss a due date.

The key standards (in plain English)

Most NSW compliance questions come back to a few Australian Standards. Here’s what each one covers.

AS/NZS 3760 — Electrical test & tag

Covers in-service inspection and testing of portable electrical equipment (tools, leads, office appliances, etc.).

AS 2293 — Emergency & exit lighting

Covers emergency escape lighting and exit signs, including routine testing and record keeping.

AS 1851 — Fire equipment routine service

Covers routine servicing of fire protection systems and equipment (including portable fire equipment schedules).

We follow the relevant standards for your environment and keep your records audit-ready with same-day digital certificates.

Quick answer

Most businesses test electrical items every 6–12 months.

Construction and hostile environments are usually every 3 months. Fire equipment is commonly inspected every 6 months. We’ll confirm what applies to your site.
